With nine eclectic competitions devoted to narrative and documentary features, short documentary films, student etudes, TV series' episodes and music videos, as well as numerous special screenings, seminars, discussion panels, workshops, exhibitions and supporting events, we take pride in the wide array of film and film-related experiences we offer to EnergaCAMERIMAGE participants each and every year. But there is one event, or actually a series of events, that we treat as slightly more important – the internationally coveted Main Competition in which over a dozen of brilliant cinematographers compete for Golden, Silver, and Bronze Frog. This particular Competition is the trademark of EnergaCAMERIMAGE and has been with the festival since its inception in 1993. We are therefore delighted to announce that this year's Main Competition Jury will be headed by British director Joe Wright, an internationally renowned filmmaker with incredible visual imagination, whose films we have screened throughout the years at the festival.
Upcoming, Wright directs Cyrano a musical adaptation of Edmond Rostand's play 'Cyrano de Bergerac' starring Peter Dinklage, Haley Bennett, and Kelvin Harrison Jr. Wright's directorial debut, Pride & Prejudice starring Keira Knightley, earned him a BAFTA Award for 'Most Promising Newcomer' and 'Best Director of the Year' from the London Film Critics Circle. His other credits include the Academy Award® winning films Darkest Hour starring Gary Oldman and Atonement starring Keira Knightley, James McAvoy and Saoirse Ronan, Anna Karenina, Hanna with Saoirse Ronan, and The Soloist starring Jamie Foxx and Robert Downey Jr.
Still from "Cyrano"
Needless to say, with such a number of visually evocative films under his belt, we strongly believe there is no better person to lead the Main Competition’s Jury than Joe Wright. The filmmaker will also introduce the special screening of Cyrano together with cinematographer Seamus McGarvey and leading actress Haley Bennett.
